Hiking in Hohe Tauern National Park
Kaprun and its surroundings are a paradise for hiking enthusiasts. With almost 400 km of marked trails, both beginners and experienced mountaineers will find their path. Popular routes lead to the peaks of Kitzsteinhorn, Schmittenhöhe or to the Krimml Waterfalls.
Cycling and E-bikes
The region offers 240 km of cycle paths, from leisurely routes along the lakes to demanding mountain trails. A popular activity is renting e-bikes, which make Alpine climbs easier.
Mountaineering and Via Ferrata
For the brave, several via ferrata routes in the area are available, including the demanding route on Kitzsteinhorn. Beginners can try easier secured paths around Zell am See.
Zeller See – Crystal Clear Lake
Lake Zell is considered one of the cleanest in Europe. In summer it offers a wide range of water sports: swimming, diving, paddleboarding, water skiing or windsurfing.
Rafting and Canyoning

Tauern Spa – Oasis of Peace

Kaprun Castle

Winter Activities
Kitzsteinhorn – Glacier Full of Snow
The Kitzsteinhorn glacier is a paradise for skiers and snowboarders. With one of the longest ski seasons in Austria (October to May), it offers 61 km of slopes of various difficulty levels.
Schmittenhöhe – Skiing with a View
Schmittenhöhe, located in Zell am See, offers 77 km of slopes with panoramic views of the Alps and Lake Zell. The resort is ideal for families, beginners and advanced skiers alike.
Cross-Country Skiing
The Zell am See - Kaprun region offers 107 km of cross-country trails, including illuminated trails for evening skiing. The trail around Lake Zell with beautiful views is particularly popular.
Ice Skating and Tobogganing
A natural ice rink forms on Lake Zell in winter, where you can enjoy ice skating with your family. Tobogganing is possible on illuminated runs at Maiskogel or Kohlmais.
